The Grand Traveler comes with 410 precisely cut pieces and a rubber band motor that can propel it up to 6 meters across a smooth surface. To set it in motion, simply lift the side lever and wind the front of the train up to 15 turns — then watch your creation roll forward under its own power.

The Grand Traveler 246 is a custom wooden 3D model of a vintage-inspired train that can move after assembly. With 410 laser-cut pieces and medium complexity (MASTERS level, or 4 out of 5), this DIY locomotive can be completed in 8–10 hours, providing a truly engaging challenge for experienced builders. But even if you’re new to the hobby, don’t worry — you’ll manage just fine with our detailed, step-by-step instructions.
This DIY set includes the locomotive and a matching set of rails, ready for you to assemble. Every iconic feature of a vintage steam engine has been carefully recreated — from the smokestack and front headlamp to the driving wheels, side rods, classic boiler shape, and the engineer’s cab. The Grand Traveler is powered by a rubber band motor, which can send the train up to 6 meters on a single wind. The start lever sits conveniently on the side near the cab, and winding the motor is simple — just twist the front of the locomotive at the headlamp. And voilà, the Traveler is ready to chug along!
