What's with "shooting" photos?

Ever wondered why we shoot pictures? The story goes back to the late 19th century, when photography borrowed a few words from hunting. Camera guns were used to photograph birds in flight, and the word snapshot originally meant a quick shot taken without careful aim. Those expressions stuck — and they're still part of photography today. Ready for a different kind of shooting? The Vintara M is as rewarding to build as it is to display.

When DIY speaks the language of style

Back in the days of rangefinder cameras, taking a photo was a ritual — adjusting the aperture, setting the shutter speed, focusing by hand, and waiting for the perfect shot. Inspired by those iconic cameras, the Vintara M captures their unmistakable character in every detail, from the lens and viewfinder to the shutter-speed dial and frame counter. Decorative film-strip inserts and textured body panels complete the authentic vintage look.
Photography, reimagined in wood
The Vintara M is a specialized 3D wooden model from WoodTrick, designed to bring together style and an engaging building experience. The kit includes 133 precision-cut pieces and is rated START level (2 out of 5), making it a relaxed and enjoyable project to complete in about 1–2 hours. It’s a great choice for DIY beginners, while still offering enough detail to keep hobbyists interested. A clear step-by-step instruction guide makes the assembly smooth and enjoyable from the first piece to the last.

What makes this wooden model truly special is its level of detail. Every key element of a classic rangefinder camera is thoughtfully recreated and works as part of the design — the lens rotates smoothly, and the shutter speed dial lets you simulate different exposure settings. The lens and viewfinder are made of acrylic glass, included in the kit. On the back, a small film compartment opens so you can insert your own photo or a decorative film strip. The set also comes with a 12-frame film strip featuring 6 sepia illustrations and 6 black-and-white images to color.

This DIY camera is designed for creative makers and design lovers who enjoy building things with their own hands. Made from sustainable wood and assembled without glue or special tools, it focuses on the joy of the process itself. Once finished, it turns into a distinctive decor piece that brings character to any room.
